Representatives from the Grenada Football Association (GFA) Clubs express optimism about fortifying their organizations after a Club Administration workshop held from January 21-22.
The two-day session, hosted at Royalton Grenada, was facilitated by David Sabir, one of the longest-serving General Secretaries globally, associated with the Bermuda Football Association and serving as a FIFA and Concacaf Instructor. Sabir covered various topics crucial to club success, including the significance of having statutes, strategic planning, budget and financial planning, as well as marketing and communication. Emphasizing the broader impact of football, Sabir conveyed to the club representatives that “football is more than just the clubs and the GFA.” He underscored the vital role of community involvement in the success of club football and national football development.
With 32 representatives from GFA clubs in attendance, many participants found the workshop timely and valuable. GFA President Marlon Glean assured the attendees that this workshop is the first of similar club engagements, stating, “We’ve already contacted FIFA on doing a workshop on financial governance because football starts with you, and we want you to be knowledgeable in all aspects of the game.”
Reflecting on the workshop, Ronda Niles of Hampshire United shared, “This experience will help me to develop all aspects of my club, especially in the area of human resources. Our club needs more support, and coming out of this workshop, we will be able to encourage more people to give of their time and talent.”
Timothy Cox from Springs FC mentioned, “It was very informative and reinforced many things we took for granted. It is very important that we widen and diversify our club membership to go to the next level.”
Participants received certificates at the conclusion of the workshop and pledged to bring the gained knowledge back to their clubs for implementation.
