Shalrie Joseph to be Inducted into St. John’s University Hall of Fame

Shalrie Joseph, the Head Coach of the Grenada Senior Men National Team, has been selected for induction into the St. John’s University Hall of Fame in Men’s Soccer. This honor recognizes Joseph’s outstanding contributions and achievements during his collegiate and professional soccer career.

During his time at St. John’s University, Joseph was a standout player, securing a pair of All-Big East first team selections and a third team All-America honor. He played a pivotal role in leading the team to a remarkable 31-8-5 record, including a 14-3-4 conference mark and a Big East title. In the 2000 NCAA Division 1 Tournament, Joseph showcased his scoring prowess by netting 14 goals and providing 2 assists, scoring in 12 of the 19 matches played. His exceptional performance earned him the prestigious Frank G. Haggerty Memorial Award for Top Male Student-Athlete.

Joseph’s professional career spanned 12 years, with the majority of his time spent with the New England Revolution in Major League Soccer (MLS). He was drafted fourteenth overall in the 2002 MLS SuperDraft but did not join the team until the 2003 season. Joseph quickly established himself as one of the league’s top defensive midfielders, earning four MLS Best XI Player honors and being selected to seven All-Star Games. He finished his professional playing career with 40 goals and 34 assists in 283 appearances.

In addition to his club success, Joseph also represented Grenada on the international stage, earning 20 caps and scoring one goal for the national team. His leadership and skill on the field were instrumental in Grenada’s participation in the Caribbean Cup, the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup, and World Cup qualifiers.

Following his playing career, Joseph transitioned into coaching, taking on roles with the New England Revolution’s academy and later serving as an assistant coach for the team. His dedication to the sport and his ability to inspire and develop young talent have made him a respected figure in the soccer community.

This honor not only highlights his achievements at St. John’s University but also his lasting impact on the sport at both the collegiate and professional levels.
