The Grenada Football Association (GFA) is set to officially inaugurate its Referee Academy on Wednesday, 8 April 2026 at 10 a.m., marking a historic step in the development of officiating standards within Grenadian football.
The launch ceremony will take place at the National Stadium Media Conference Room and will feature FIFA Development Officer Javier Santos as the distinguished guest, underscoring the international dimension of the initiative.
The GFA Referee Academy stands as a landmark programme designed to raise the standard of refereeing across domestic competitions. Built around a comprehensive training structure, it will cover key areas such as laws of the game interpretation, physical conditioning, match management skills, and professional ethics. The first intake will certify approximately 30 aspiring referees, with the goal of strengthening both the integrity and competitiveness of football at local and regional levels.
“Investing in our referees is essential to the growth of Grenadian football,” said Marlon Glean, President of the GFA. “The academy will provide the tools and mentorship needed to produce officials who are competent, confident, and internationally recognised.”
Both Glean and Santos are expected to address participants at the launch, offering perspectives on FIFA’s global development framework and the pathways it creates for emerging match officials seeking advancement on the international stage.
