The festival is set to honor women in football while also marking the beginning of the 2024 Women’s League season.
During this one-day event, teams will engage in a 7v7 tournament, with participants divided into 3 groups and matches played in 20-minute halves. It’s an inclusive occasion, welcoming female players of varying ages and skill levels to take part.
Cazirah Thomas, the Women’s Director at GFA, expressed excitement about the festival, emphasizing its focus on celebrating women’s involvement in football. She anticipates a day filled with spirited competition and community bonding, united by a shared passion for the sport.
Beyond the festivities, the event serves as a precursor to the 2024 Women’s League launch, scheduled for March 23, 2024. This initiative by the GFA aims to enhance opportunities for women and girls to engage in organized football activities throughout Grenada, with teams from different communities expected to join.
Thomas views this festival as a significant step forward in advancing women’s football development. The Women’s League, she believes, will not only provide a platform for women to showcase their skills at a competitive level but also inspire young girls as they look up to these players as role models.
Taking place on March 9 at Morne Rouge Playing Field from 2 pm to 6 pm, the Women’s Football Festival welcomes spectators free of charge. The GFA encourages everyone to come out and show their support for women in football.
