The Grenada Football Association (GFA) has extended the duration of its 2023 Sandals National U15 Boys tournament, as revealed during a launch event held earlier this week.
At the press launch hosted at the GFA Conference room, President Marlon Glean announced that the tournament will now span six months instead of the initially planned six weeks. President Glean explained, “What we tried to do was pack as much football as possible into the year, and the longer tournament provides an opportunity for players to develop over a period of time with more on-the-field experience and training.”
Additionally, the President disclosed that matches will take place on weekends during primetime, offering parents and fans the chance to attend and show their support while witnessing the players demonstrate their skills in front of a crowd.
For the upcoming tournament, 20 teams have registered, and Sandals Grenada Resorts and Spa has reaffirmed its sponsorship for the development league. President Glean expressed gratitude to the organization for its ongoing support in nurturing the next generation of footballers. Representing Sandals Grenada, Nasha Smith Bailey, Director of Sales, Groups, and Conventions, stated, “Sandals Grenada is delighted to sponsor another season of the National U15 Tournament, and we look forward to a successful tournament and contributing to the development of football throughout the nation.”
The launch of the Sandals GFA National U15 Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, April 22, 2023, at Cuthbert Peters Park at 2:30 pm, featuring an evening of exciting exhibition matches. The competition will involve the registered teams divided into two groups, competing to reach the quarterfinals, semifinals, and ultimately the final. Paradise FCI, the defending champions, have clinched the tournament three times.
