The Grenada Senior Women’s National Team (SWNT) produced a determined and hard-fought 3–1 win over the Cayman Islands on Tuesday, 14 April at the Kirani James Athletics Stadium, securing a valuable home victory in Group C of the 2025/26 Concacaf W Qualifiers.
Despite falling behind early, Grenada showed resilience and composure to turn the match around, with goals coming from Raquelle Mitchell (45+5’), Nia Thompson (63’), and Alexis Hypolite (87’). The Cayman Islands had opened the scoring through Molly Kehoe in the 3rd minute.
The result carried added significance for Grenada’s women’s programme, not only for the points earned on home soil, but for the character and steady development displayed throughout the contest. Competing in Group C alongside Costa Rica, Guatemala, Bermuda, and the Cayman Islands in the preliminary stage of the 2026 Concacaf W Championship, Grenada continues to use the competition as a platform for growth, with only the group winner advancing to the final tournament.
After a difficult opening spell, Grenada gradually settled into rhythm, regaining control through structured play and growing confidence. The equaliser just before halftime shifted momentum, and the team carried that energy into the second half, where they pressed forward with greater authority. Thompson’s strike put the hosts ahead before Hypolite’s late finish put the result beyond doubt.
“We are very proud of the team’s performance and the manner in which they responded,” said Marlon Glean, President GFA. “To earn a home victory in a Concacaf qualifier is a meaningful achievement for the programme and for the country. Just as important, this result reflects the continued progress of women’s football in Grenada. We were especially pleased to see one of our young U17 players, Alexis Hypolite, step up and score at senior level. That is exactly the kind of pathway we are working to build.”
The match also shone a light on Grenada’s strengthening youth development pipeline, with two U17 players making notable contributions at senior level. Alexis Hypolite, 17, capped her senior involvement with the decisive third goal in the 87th minute, while 15-year-old Cara Bisasor impressed with a composed and energetic display that drew attention from both supporters and team leadership. President Glean highlighted Bisasor as one of the standout performers of the match and a clear crowd favourite, underscoring her maturity on the senior stage. In total, five U17 players were included in the senior squad for the fixture, reinforcing the GFA’s commitment to bridging youth and senior football.
Head Coach Melanie Thomas commended the squad’s response and discipline over the full 90 minutes.
“The players showed tremendous effort, discipline, and belief,” said Thomas. “We did not let the early goal define the match. We stayed composed, we worked ourselves back into the game, and we were rewarded for our persistence. What we want to carry forward now is that same mentality, that same work ethic, and that same togetherness into our next match.”
The victory comes within a highly competitive Group C context. Concacaf confirmed ahead of the April window that Bermuda, Grenada, and the Cayman Islands were no longer in contention to top the group, while Costa Rica and Guatemala remained in the race for qualification. Even so, Grenada’s performance offered a strong statement of intent, pride, and progress, giving home supporters a performance to celebrate.
Grenada will now conclude its Group C campaign with an away fixture against Bermuda on 18 April at the Dame Flora Duffy National Sports Centre in Hamilton. The match will close out the team’s 2025/26 Concacaf W Qualifiers journey and presents another opportunity to build on this result and finish strongly.
The Grenada Football Association extends sincere appreciation to supporters, partners, sponsors, and stakeholders for their continued backing of women’s football. The performance against the Cayman Islands stands as a clear reminder of the team’s potential, and the Association remains committed to sustaining and accelerating the programme’s development.
